Ristar (Sonic Team 1995)
In
some far-off galaxy an evil alien called Greed is up to no good, enslaving the
people and corrupting their rulers. All hope seems to be lost as even their
great hero is captured. Still they send out a desperate plea for help which is
answered by none other than the hero's son Ristar. OK so the plot isn't that
original but the rest of the game more than makes up for this. It just so happen
to be that Ristar is a yellow star with telescopic arms. I always wondered who
would star in platform games after they run out of a supply of small furry
creatures but even I'm surprised at the choice of a celestial object as game
character.
Light Crusader (Treasure 1995)
If
you don't know about a company called Treasure then you've been missing out on
some of the best games on Mega Drive. If you do know them then you might be
surprised to learn that they have turned their attention to creating a Role
Playing Game. Seeing as almost all their other games were platform games
featuring heavy firepower it's interesting to see how they handled this one.
Cool Spot (Virgin Games 1993)
When
companies start using their mascots for games it's usually a good idea to steer
clear. This time round though somebody actually put the game first and the
product placement second, resulting in a very good game. What's even stranger
is the fact that the starring mascot is none other than that small red spot on
the 7-up bottle. This isn't really his first game but since the original NES
game was such a hideous product it's best to forget about that and move on.

Just when you think you've seen everything a console has to
offer along comes a title that blows everyone else out of the water. Earthworm
Jim by Shiny is the brainchild of Dave Perry who has given the world Coolspot
and Aladdin. Earthworm Jim though is a whole new can of worms and will have
something for even jaded platform fans.
Desert Strike (Electronic Arts 1992)
When yet another mad dictators plans on taking over the Gulf
you and your Apache helicopter are sent into the fray to defuse the situation.
It's up to you through a series of campaigns to bring down the madman and
restore some much needed peace to the region.
Comix Zone (Sega 1995)
Sketch Turner is a comic book artist that gets a nasty
surprise when one of his one creations pops out of his comic one day and traps
him inside his own drawings. Now Sketch has to fight for his life while his
nemesis is on the outside drawing more adversaries. His not alone though. Along
for the ride is his pet rat Roadkill and providing useful information is Alissa
Cyan. Comix Zone is not your usual run-of-the-mill Side Scrolling Beat 'Em Up
that's for sure.
Blades Of Vengeance (Beam Software 1993)
It seems that a certain dragon called Manaxa has gotten some
delusions of grandeur and took over your peaceful city. Infesting the place
will all kinds of evil creatures and stripping your master of his power, it's
now up to you bring peace to the world by stopping the foul creature. You can
take your pick from a feisty female warrior, muscle bound knight and small but powerful
wizard. Best of all you can hook up with a friend and take on the baddies as a
due.
Aladdin (Virgin Interactive 1993)
Aladdin is the game based upon the classic Disney film of
the same name. In it you play the role of a young thief named Aladdin. An evil
wizard named Jaffar has found a secret cave filled with vast treasures
including a magic lamp and magic carpet. The only problem is that he cannot
enter the cave himself. He tries to trick Aladdin into going into the cave and
finding the magic lamp for him, but Aladdin discovers the nature of the lamp
and tries to stop the evil Jaffar. Along the way he also finds time to fall in
love with the princess and do a bit of magical carpet riding.
